MY JOURNEY

Kim Carpenter

I fought it for a long time, but I couldn’t ignore my calling any longer…

For 18 years I was an executive in some of the top online marketing agencies. By all accounts, I had a GREAT CAREER! Nice salary and 401K. Impressive titles, talented co-workers, big stylish offices and responsibility out the ying-yang.

My family and friends rolled their eyes when I complained about not liking my job. They thought I was nuts.

So what was my problem? I longed to make a bigger, bolder, more tangible difference in the lives of others. I didn’t give two hoots about marketing laundry detergent or sneakers. I felt like I was selling my soul for a pay check, and I knew I had to make a big change.

When this really hit home, I hired a life coach. And then I decided I wanted to BE a coach, so I enrolled in a training program. And then another training program. And I worked with clients on the side of my “real job”… and then I GOT FIRED. Yeah, they called it “laid off”, but it still felt like fired. Let go. Redundant.

Life kicked me in the butt. I couldn’t afford my apartment. And with the other huge percentage of workforce in New York City after 9/11, I had to find a job. Good Luck!

It took about a month of feeling sorry for myself before I pulled up my bootstraps. I got out of my apartment lease and finagled a beach house rental off Long Island. I got creative and shared the place with friends on the weekends to cut down on rent.

I had grand plans for doing coaching full time, but after a few months I was lured back into the corporate world by the promise of more money, so-called “stability” and health insurance. I’ve got to tell you, it hasn’t been a straight path to doing the work I love. I even spent four months living in an ashram in India, searching for the answers.

What I found was that I needed to take imperfect action, and I needed support from a coach and mentor to do it. It was when I threw away the safety net and made a real investment in myself and my business that things started taking off.

Now, I commit my life to helping Change Agents and Social Entrepreneurs (meaning you have a triple bottom line: people, planet, profit) to live their dream, get their business going, and get their work out into the world so they can make the difference they were born for.

If that’s you, I want to speak with you. Call me at 415.905.0400 or email kim@kimcarpenter.net. Please don’t wait as long as I did to make this happen for yourself!
